It’s the right season to dine outdoors again — finally — spurring my little ladies and I during a recent girls weekend to find a fun restaurant to check out. We ended up at Hobo’s in downtown Fort Mill, which fit the bill perfectly.
I’ve heard plenty of people rave about Hobo’s, but we just hadn’t gotten there for some reason. Once the girls found out there was an outdoor space to play in, they were sold.
It wasn’t terribly crowded on the Sunday night we visited, so fortunately we got to sit outside as planned. It was a bonus to see all the diners nearby who had brought their extremely well-behaved dogs. Ours would have barked for bites the whole time or yapped constantly at the neighboring hounds. No restaurants for them!
Each child picked something different from the kids menu, ensuring that we covered everything except for the grilled cheese. Next time! They ran around and played tag with other kids, working up an appetite while we waited a short time for our food.
The cheese quesadilla and chips made our pickiest eater pretty happy. The chicken fingers looked a little dark, but the lightly crunchy batter turned out to be surprisingly good when I snagged a taste.
I knew when my oldest chose pasta salad as the side item to her cheeseburger that she wouldn’t be eating it — she’s always had a bird’s appetite. But I was super happy to find that it was a colorful concoction that included a few veggies. More leftovers for mama! (I had picked the same side after finding out that, sadly, they had run out of onion straws.)
The pimento cheese and applewood smoked bacon drew me into having the Vagabond burger. My grandma — who has deeply loved food since long before foodies were a thing — would call it “scrumptious.” It came out exactly medium, as I had ordered it, and it was gigantic. Way bigger than this picture looks. I scarfed it down quickly. Every bite.
Topping off the experience, our server was entirely delightful. She was extremely helpful and attentive, which I immensely appreciated while trying to wrangle three energy-filled children on my own.
We will most definitely return sometime when dad is along to try out the drinks and I can get an adult shake. Hopefully soon!
