This week marks the first year we’ve been in Fort Mill.
We’ve packed in quite a bit over these 12 months, and I’m grateful for all of it.
Our girls have made some really incredible friends, which we’re over the moon about. We’ve also gotten to know some fantastic neighbors, all of whom look out for each other and reach out with kindness. What a win!
I have worked to get more involved with our school, which is supported by volunteers who repeatedly give of themselves, and teachers who are first-rate. I’m quite impressed with the Fort Mill School District as a whole.
There’s been lots of time for playing, picnics and meeting new friends at Walter Elisha Park, Harris Street Park, Runde Park and even our neighborhood playground and pool. Plus visits to the YMCA and its waterpark. Many stops at the Fort Mill library, too.
Our family made sure to check out the Strawberry Festival, the Earth Day festivities at Anne Springs Close Greenway and the spring and fall festivals in Baxter Village. We discovered downtown and slurped up Pelican’s Snoballs more times than I could count. There was a fun trip to the Lazy 5 Ranch with friends and another to The Speedpark at Concord Mills with family. We toured Charlotte Motor Speedway and had all sorts of other adventures.
There were dinners at the Peach Stand, La Fornarina (which I was SO sad to see close — best lasagna ever), Tega Cay Deli, 521 BBQ, Hobo’s, Danny’s Pizza, Village Pizza, Peking Tokyo. I’ve fallen deeply in love with Publix. (What other store showers you with attention, then gives you samples of steak?) And who could forget those special moments of joy thanks to Cupcrazed?
The kiddos trekked us all around Carowinds at least a half dozen times, sharing one refillable-for-the-whole-season drink cup among the 5 of us. We tried the crabfries and cheesesteak nachos at Chickie’s & Pete’s. Then we went crazy and headed straight to Funnel Cake Emporium. (#living)
Best of all, I know we haven’t even scratched the surface here. There’s so much to see and do. If you know of something we need to check out in 2017, please help us out pass it on here. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings us!
